We would like to share with you this opportunity within the project GROMADA (European universities supporting legal and community capacities for Ukraine’s environmental recovery): Ukraine water quality hackathon.
This challenge encourages participants to examine how the war is influencing water quality in Ukraine and how water needs and threats may change over time, both with respect to Ukraine’s recovery and also as a result of climate change and future regulatory alignment with the European Union.
There is a particularly interested in projects that are relevant to the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions of Ukraine, and in projects and solutions that identify problems or help plug gaps in the projects current understanding. The data that projects gather should contribute to the wellbeing and protection of communities and ecosystems in these areas. Ideally, they will be projects that can be implemented by environmental science students and using only limited financial resources
This Challenge will run within the framework of DigiEduHack 2024 and is part of the EU-funded GROMADA project
The hackathon runs over 13 and 14 November and participants must be able to take part for its full duration.
13 November 2024, 10:00 – 19:00, Kyiv time.
14 November 2024, 10:00 – 17:00, Kyiv time.
Ukrainian and international university students, teaching staff, and activists are invited to join and work in teams of 4-5 people.
The deadline for registrations is 8 November 2024.
Any projects that are proposed need to be sensitive to the wartime context in Ukraine. Considerations should include the safety and security of participants and potential sensitivities around the collection, storage, and use of environmental data. The event will be undertaken in English and participants must have the language skills to allow this.
As a preparation for the hackathon, there will be an introductory webinar on 6 November, 09:00-10:30 UK time. Registration to the introductory webinar.
