UNESCO is pleased to announce the 2024 Future Designer International Innovation Design Awards (IIDA) and the Science for SDGs Innovation Contest, held under the umbrella of the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (IDSSD) (2024–2033). These events are part of the UNESCO-UNITRAIN Youth Competence Development Project (YCD).
Event Purpose: The contest aims to engage talented young individuals from around the world in creating innovative and sustainable solutions for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The IDSSD offers a unique opportunity for humanity to fully harness the power of science for sustainable development and to ensure a safe and prosperous future for all.
Key Objectives:
- Empowering the global community through scientific literacy.
- Generating actionable scientific knowledge to accelerate SDG progress.
- Advancing basic sciences through global research collaborations.
- Promoting the widespread and equitable use of open science to democratize scientific processes and knowledge access.
- Transforming national innovation systems to better meet scientific and societal needs.
Eligibility: The contest is open to young people aged 16 to 35, including secondary school and university students, early-career scientists, and engineers. Teams can consist of up to six members, with at least one female member required in teams of more than two participants to promote gender equality.
Submission Details: Entries must be submitted in either image (JPG) or video (MP4) formats through the IIDA platform. The submission deadline is 13 October 2024, and winners will be announced in late October.
