Topic: The project will contribute to the resilience of wartime Ukraine’s educational institutions and will support Ukrainian teachers, students, and researchers who remain in Ukraine and work or study at Ukrainian universities. The goal of the project is to help teachers, scientists, and students prepare for active participation in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. This project will provide several events, both online and physical, aimed at the target groups mentioned above. The content of the events will be focused on knowledge and experiences needed to overcome the consequences of the war, as well as problems of sustainability in connection to the war in terms of social life, environment, etc.

Topic: The project envisages educational activities with students in several areas closely related to the main specializations of the Faculty of Sociology and Law. Our students will gain experience in participating in transnational educational sessions, through which they will acquire new skills and competencies in team building, rational argumentation, critical thinking, intercultural communication, peacebuilding and mediation. In cooperation with NGOs and the international student community from Sweden, the United States, and Armenia, our students will gain access to new methods and tools for working with young people. The expertise in intercultural communication, peace and war, and peacekeeping procedures gained during the project will be incorporated into the curriculum for conflict resolution and mediation for bachelor’s and master’s students.

Topic: The project aims to support Ukraine’s PhD students and young researchers in the area of Additive Manufacturing in their professional development´. It will connect them to international research and development environments. Additive manufacturing technologies have the utmost importance for the reorganisation and post-war recovery of the Ukrainian economy. But several social and economic factors limit the accomplishment of the new generation of specialists in the field. The brain drain affects it stronger than in many other areas. The domestic educational system is not well structured to adapt to the ever-changing needs of students, especially at the higher levels of specialization and there is a substantial gap between the academic institutions and the industry.

Topic: Travel mode detection is a crucial task for transport demand management and understanding mobility patterns. Lack of data makes the mode detection task challenging to detect new transport modes and track trip chains. Thus, researchers and practitioners try to identify new data sources and plan optimal data collection infrastructure to develop advanced and robust models. In the MODA project, we will tackle travel mode detection from both the data as well as the modeling side. We aim to design and implement a simulation test bed to collect (generate) the mobility data covering new and traditional transport modes. We will design and test the opportunistic data collection framework to reflect the real-world challenges of data scarcity, sparsity, quality, and technical feasibility. Use of wavelet transformation and signal processing methods will be used to process and filter the data. We will propose and test state-of-the-art deep learning models to detect travel modes with high accuracy and robustness while addressing data quality issues. These models will be validated with respect to the simulation ground truth, as well as real-world data. Finally, models will be transferred to new contexts and study areas to tackle the lack of data. Thus, our proposal tackles the travel model detection holistically and has potential practical benefits to the transport research community. It provides a wider framework to apply mode detection using free and opportunistic data, assesses if these data are sufficient for the task, and investigate the limits of the data.

Topic: Aims: The state-of-the-art Automated Control Systems Cybersecurity Lab will help two hundred future and current operators responsible for critical infrastructure improve their skills and knowledge to reduce and eliminate vulnerabilities in automated control systems. This is now possible because the newly created laboratory virtually duplicates the environment of an industrial control system, simulating real-life situations in various sectors such as manufacturing, water supply, and utilities. This makes it easier to conduct practical experiments and expand learning opportunities.

Topic: The project is focused on the development of new materials for extreme operational conditions, particularly for ultra-high-temperature structural applications in key sectors such as aerospace, transportation, and energy production. The project aims to create crystallized ceramic eutectics based on refractory compounds, which, due to their high strength and structural integrity at the interfaces, can achieve high mechanical properties at both room and elevated temperatures. The expected outcome is an improvement in the high-temperature properties of reinforced composites by using high-entropy borides (HEBs) as a reinforcing component in the B4C-HEB system.
